Jye Perkins, La Flama Blanca, WA

Jye Perkins shows that age knows no boundaries.

Family ties run pretty deep when it comes to the Perkins brothers. All three brothers, Jake, Kane & Jye have had the good fortune of growing up in North West WA and honing their skills at Kalbarri. According to locals they are forever trying to out do each other and keep sibling hierarchy in check. Photographer Mike Riley has spent a lot of time in the water this winter as the ocean continues to deliver a constant supply of special days. Here’s what he had to say of the brothers and youngest Jye, pictured here.

“The Perkins brothers defiantly had a field day out there yesterday. They all managed to get a couple of pretty mad shots. Three brothers, the oldest one is and probably one of the best surfers I know and one of my best mates. His name is Jake Perkins but most people know him as Filter.  When the waves are a bit bigger this guy is worth keeping an eye on. He actually has no fear. He loves air dropping out of the lip and seems to make it every time.

Then there’s Kane Perkins who is no slouch either. Here in Kalbarri he is know as the Foam Ball Warrior or FBW. We give him a hard time but thats only because he surfs that good that we have to bring him down a couple of notches. He is also probably one of the funniest humans you will ever meet.

Last but not least is Jye Perkins (pictured). As the youngest brother he has a very long list of nick names like La Flame,La La Blanca or the White Flame, due to his white blond hair. Lately I have been calling him Jye Jye Florence because he has been wearing a Hurley wetsuit like John John. It’s defiantly one of his least favourite names but the boys and I always get a laugh out of it. Jye is only young but he rides the barrel better than almost any one. This family of tube riders are some of the biggest legends in the world and I’m proud and honoured to call all three of them my mates.”
