Best Claim Of All Time?

 Claiming waves [physically celebrating a good ride in an obvious fashion] has long been a surfing faux pas for many surfing pundits. Purists often scorning those who throw arms in the air after that required score of 5.8, or hoot the house down after a head dip on a three foot mush burger… but some times a wave calls for a little celebration. Kelly Slater will subtly blow his nose, reserved, but still a claim. Parko will do a head down one arm flex, not over the top, but a claim non the less. In this clip Floridian born Damien Hobgood takes claiming to a new height. Far from being what could be categorized as a ‘wanker’, type character, Damo is as nice a bloke as you’re likely to come across. The fact this wave at Teahupo’o is an absolute smoker makes the hilarious triple faze claim even more acceptable. Is it the best of all time? The jury’s out on that one... On things for sure, it’s definitely up there. |
