Apocalypse Later, Surf Now
By Ben Whitmore | 13 January 2012

Apocalypse-Now-Japanese-Poster-1

A short film Justin Mcmillan did using footage shot from on his GoPro camera.

The effects were done in Maya, motion tracking in Mocha, and compositing in After Effects.

All on an iMac.

The music is "The Whales" by The Mermen on the album Krill Slippin'.

With all those mals in the water it's apacolyptic without the special effects.

There are worse ways to be spending your end-of-the-world this December ay... This is awesome work Justin! I love it that the surf is just everyday stuff and average locals... it's way more realistic, like someone found the goPro washed up on a beach in the future and this was the footy.

Very nice. How did you map the light and reflections from explosions on the footage?

You'd think with all that flack at least one of the SUP riders would have been taken out :)

Wow, very Kool Idea there, but you need big wave like at Mavericks instead of that small mirky surf... Let me know if you need the footage.
