So many images are taken during surfing events that sometimes, photographers skip over something, without realising the shot contained some curious content.

This one was taken during one of the defining moments of the Quiksilver Pro, New York. Kelly Slater Vs Taj Burrow in the semi-final. Taj had Kelly on the ropes for the entire heat until Kelly threw a knock-out-blow, a ten point ride in the final moments. Both surfers’ girlfriends were in the V.I.P. tent for the heavyweight surf-stoush, and it just so happens they’re sisters.

Kelly has been dating Kalani Miller for a few years now but Taj has only recently linked up with Kalani’s sister Oleema. The two sisters are reportedly very close and run a succeful swimwear label, Mikoh, together. However, when it comes to cheering for surfers, right now they’re definitely on different teams.
