Searching For Aloha: Nate Smith Blog and Gallery No.2

Unknown stunner ripping into a semi frother right at Rocky Point.

The Hawaiian season is now in full swing with all pros and WQS surfers all here fighting and scratching for any good wave that dares to break along the three mile stretch of sand I’m staying on.
There has been plenty to do and see.
Now that the swell that woke Pipeline from its slumber has gone, Rocky Point has seen the bulk of the action. Girls shredding in the water and on the beach playing racket ball… Fellow Australians Rhys Bombaci, Dion Atkinson and Kai Otton all seen flaring on the ripperbal lefts and rights Rockies offers.

When the surf gets kinda bad or the wind is up a bit too much a “town run” is always on the cards. I managed to venture into town with Adam Robertson, Nick Muscroft and Rhys Bombaci to grab a movie, a good thing to do if you need a rest form the waves.
After shaking off a nice little hangover from Parko’s Reef Hawaiian Pro victory party, I discovered a couple of shots from the night on my pocket camera. You can see them below. I can also tell you I’ve got plenty more gems that I’ll save for the mag. And I’m sure there will be a few more parties yet it is the way it goes here on the rock

Apart from the surf check another morning ritual is the Starbucks run. This coffee chain outlet is where you’ll find basically every pro surfer known to man getting his or her morning dose of caffeine. This is where the North Shore’s party plans are made and most of life’s problems are solved… After two hot cups of java that is.

Today is Thanks Giving Day, so myself , Luke Sted’s and our next door neighbour Kai Otton, are about to feast on some turkey and then surf (with full bellies) out the front… Happy thanks giving.

Tune in soon for some more aloha.

Nate
