Do You Know Who Shane Herring Is?

The footage every grommet should see.

In 1992 Shane Herring defeated Kelly Slater in the Coke Classic at Narrabeen and for a brief but brilliant period was considered the best surfer in the world. Some grommets don’t even know who he is but they probably should because when you look back at his footage you realise it still has the capacity to inspire today’s surfing youth. Journey On by Monty Webber features some of Herring’s mesmerising surfing and looks at how the gifted, freckle-faced kid from Dee Why spun out of control. If you’re a grommet you’ll be headed straight to the beach to try Herro carves after you watch, and if you’re old enough to remember Shane Herring this film will be sure to deliver a sweet hit of Nostalgia.
