Kelly Slater Injures Foot At Cloudbreak

Denies the world title race is over.

Kelly Slater has reportedly injured his foot while surfing 8-10 foot Cloudbreak two days ago. Staying on Tavarua, Slater was there with Taylor Steele to shoot virtual reality footage and quite simply, get really barreled. Kelly had a camera mounted to his board and suffered the injury when he became unstuck from a shockwave inside a barrel. Coastalwatch have reported Kelly has stressed a bone in the top of his foot, above the middle toe. Speculation about whether he’d be contending for the world title immediately filtered out online. Surfing World’s Instagram post suggested his hopes may be over. To which the 11x world champion wrote back:

“I heard that’s a rumor. #NotTrue on the title race but foot is hurt.”

Mind games, drama or just plain bad luck? Whatever the case this year’s world title race is becoming more and more exciting everyday.
