Maurice Cole Talks Surfboard Design

The legendary Victorian shaper reflects on his shaping history and philosophy.

Victorian surfer/shaper Maurice Cole recently spoke to Korduroy.tv for their excellent Local Legendz video series. With over 40 years of shaping experience, Maurice has long been at the forefront of board design with his approach. He has shaped boards for Taj Burrow, Shane Dorian, Rob Machado, Ross Williams, Kelly Slater and Tom Curren to name a few. Here he discusses how he has refined shaping deep single concave shortboards by playing with tail rocker and fins. Most recently he rereleased his legendary “reverse vee” model that helped Curren excel at the peak of his surfing career. Watch this insightful documentary and check out Maurice’s range of boards here.
