MAROUBRA BEACH, SYDNEY (Thursday, 15 January 2015): The cast of Australian Television program, The Crew have thrown their support behind the upcoming three-day Carve Pro Junior and Ocean and Earth Teenage Rampage which kicks off at Maroubra tomorrow.
Professional surfer and UFC fighter Richie Vaculik and filmmaker and musician Macario De Souza joined Maroubra surfer and Carve Pro Junior wildcard Max Mcguigan (Chifley, NSW) at Surfing NSW headquarters yesterday to put their support behind the event and the local surfing contingent.
“It’s unreal to see a professional junior event of this stature take place in Maroubra,” said Vaculik. “There’s a decent uprising of talent coming through the Maroubra area at the moment and it’s awesome to see people like Max getting the exposure and the opportunities they deserve. Since people like Paul Moffatt and Blake Thorton have been dedicating their time to coaching up-and-coming surfers in the area, we’ve seen the talent pool get deeper and deeper and this event is the perfect way to showcase it.”
Max Mcguigan was granted a local wildcard into the event, while 2014 NRMA Under-16 NSW Junior Champion Jack Murray (Lennox Head) also scored himself a wildcard. Both aforementioned surfers recently competed in the 2014 Surf Dive N Ski Australian Junior Titles in Yallingup, WA.
Surfers will be coming from as far away as Japan, Tahiti and New Zealand to compete in the elite three-day World Surf League (WSL) Junior Qualifying Series (JQS) event.
As part of the 2015 Carve Pro Junior, 72 of the best male pro junior surfers from Australia and the world will fight it out for over $20,000 worth of prize money, giveaways and valuable WSL Australasia JQS points.
The Carve Pro Junior will be run concurrently with the Ocean and Earth Teenage Rampage, which stands to showcase some of Australia’s hottest Under-16 year-old surfers.
In 2013, the Ocean and Earth Teenage Rampage series was fine-tuned and compressed into an elite event that ran at Maroubra during the Christmas school holidays.
This year will see the addition of a new webcast – proudly presented by Tracks Magazine – which will stream the event worldwide via carveprojunior.com.
The Carve Pro Junior and the Ocean and Earth Teenage Rampage are proudly sponsored by Carve, Ocean and Earth, NRMA, Randwick City Council, Australian Skin Cancer Clinics, Tracks Magazine, Coastalwatch Plus, Souths Juniors, Ohana Ocean Athletics, The Illicit Drugs in Sport Program, World Surf League (WSL) and Surfing NSW.
