Tracks Travel: Sumatran Surfariis

Discover why the Mentawai Islands is still one of the best surf destinations on the planet.

Sumatran Surfariis started in 1998 as a 6 month journey through the Sumatran outer Islands, doing 25 night fishing boat trips from south of Enganno to the north of Simeulue. Word of mouth slowly spread about these surfers doing long cheap search trips and scoring amazing waves alone.

We run 3 surf charters, are owner operator Surfers and put a lot of effort into getting you uncrowded waves.

From the first fishing boat, the Afrika, we have learnt much and Mahogany is the 10th Indonesian Wooden boat we have been involved with.

We are well known as specialists in the quiet time over the Aussie Summer, and in keeping quiet places quiet, so in this short gallery we will not be naming names.

You may know a few of the waves, and think you know a few more, thats great, but there is no benefit in naming them.

Finally, a big shoutout to all out photogs over the years for the memories, and this amazing area of the world for its consistent solid swells, calm winds and abundance of quality reef setups that keep giving us so much variety and stoke going into our 19th year.
